Dahab Sharm el Sheikh

Dahab is a small Egyptian town of 1300 inhabitants, located on the south-eastern coast of the Sinai Peninsula, in the South Sinai Governorate. Born as a small fishing village, it is now a renowned tourist and seaside resort overlooking the Red Sea. 100 kilometers from Sharm el-Sheikh.

The name Dahab in Arabic means gold. The reference is probably linked to the typical color of the sand and the stones of the desert that form the natural scenery of the small town.

Along the coast extends the coral reef, which starting from the southern end of the Sinai (Ras Muhammed) reaches Ras Abu Galum.

It is a tourist destination particularly popular with windsurfers (the area is particularly windy), diving and snorkeling. Unlike in other locations in the Sinai, diving is mainly done from land. Of note is the dive called the Canyon. You dive into a suggestive crack that the rock has from 8 to 50 meters deep with two exits, one at 30 meters, the other on the bottom. The stretch beyond 30 meters deep is very narrow and fatal accidents have often occurred. A short distance away is another very special and no less dangerous dive site, called Blue Hole. It is characterized by a dangerous underwater passage between the lagoon and the open sea, located at a minimum depth of 52 meters, with a depth of about 110 meters. Here too many divers have lost their lives. However, you can dive to other sites without high risk, provided you do not venture beyond the limits of recreational diving.

Dahab is a transit destination for tourist excursions that from Sharm el Sheikh lead to Mount Sinai, the Monastery of Saint Catherine and the Ras Abu Galum natural park. It is also the departure and arrival station for walks along the Red Sea on camel back and for excursions in the Sinai Desert.

Along the coast there are important hotel complexes as well as family-run hotels, campsites and restaurants on the sea that have maintained all the Arab style and the original Bedouin environment.
