Aswan Governor Ismail Kamal said on Sunday that the number of cases infected with intestinal flu in the governorate’s hospitals ranges from 20 to 30 cases.
During a phone interview with the privately-owned Sada el-Balad satellite channel, Kamal expected that these cases would be stable by the beginning of next week and the rate would return to normal.
He noted that that there is no truth to speculations that drinking water is contaminated in Aswan.
“Cholera is not a disease that can be hidden. the World Health Organization and international institutions are working in Egypt,” he said, adding that the Health and Population Minister gave clear and frank answers about this disease.
He went on saying that as for the rumors about contaminated water, the most eloquent response is my presence among the citizens and me drinking water and tea with them.
Several citizens in Aswan have recently reported fatigue, vomiting and diarrhea for unknown reasons during the past couple of weeks.
Social media users discussed the infections in Aswan, with some claiming these were “cholera cases” – speculation that supported by the health authorities, who confirmed that the cases were infected with intestinal flu.
