The Public Prosecution in 6th of October City referred singer Sherine Abdel Wahab on Sunday to the misdemeanor court on charges of insulting and defaming producer Mohamed al-Shaer.
The 6th of October Misdemeanor Court set the first session of Abdel-Wahab’s trial for February 3.
The producer’s attorney Sobhi Gamal, filed a lawsuit in which he claimed that the singer defamed his client and insulted him during a press conference.
The Information Technology Investigations at the Ministry of Interior had received a report from the producer accusing Abdel-Wahab of unlawfully assaulting, slandering, and defaming him during a press conference.
The incident was filmed and shared online, and outraged users on Instagram wrote insulting comments to the producer after the video went viral.
Shaer’s lawyer said that the competent prosecution opened a judicial investigation into the incident, during which it listened to his client’s statements and requested a technical examination report from the Ministry of Interior, which concluded that the incident was true and that the slander and defamation statements were proven.
Gamal added that the prosecution requested report from the Cybersecurity Agency, which concluded that the video was authentic.
The prosecution summoned Abdel-Wahab to confront her with these reports, the claims against her, and the criminal investigations that reinforced them, but she refrained from attending after coming down with a coronavirus infection.
