Eid al-Adha to begin June 16 in Egypt, Dar al-Ifta announces

Dar al-Ifta al-Misriyya (the Egyptian House of Fatwas) has announced on Thursday that June 16 will be the first day of Eid al-Adha.

According to the astronomical calculations announced earlier, the new crescent moon will remain in the sky of Makkah al-Mukarramah for 11 minutes, and in Cairo for 18 minutes after sunset on that day (the day of sighting). In the governorates of Egypt, the new crescent moon will remain in its skies for periods ranging from 12 to 20 minutes.

As for the Arab and Islamic capitals and cities, the new crescent moon will remain after sunset on that day for periods ranging from 1 to 28 minutes, except for Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta, where the moon sets before sunset by 9 and 14 minutes, respectively.

Astronomically, the first of Dhu al-Hijjah 1445 AH was Friday, June 7 AD, the Day of Arafat for the year 1445 AH is astronomically Saturday, June 15 AD, and Eid al-Adha for the year 1455 AH is astronomically Sunday, June 16 AD.
