Culture on wheels: Egypt rolls out 5 new mobile libraries to border governorates

Nivine Al-Kilani, Minister of Culture, announced the launch of 5 new mobile libraries as part of the second phase of the Mobile Libraries Project, in cooperation with the Egyptian General Libraries Fund.

These libraries will be operated in the border governorates of North Sinai, Matrouh, Aswan, Wadi El Gdedid, and the Red Sea. The initiative is part of the Ministry’s program to achieve cultural justice and implement Egypt’s Vision 2030.

Al-Kilani stated: “The second phase of the Mobile Libraries Project, which will be launched in the coming days, is a continuation of the great success achieved by the first phase, which was inaugurated last year from the New Administrative Capital. The project has contributed to providing cultural services to the people of Egypt in areas that were deprived of cultural services in the governorates.”

Highlighting the project’s significance, Al-Kilani described it as a tool for both human development and cultural justice. The project achieves this by offering enriching activities and reaching remote areas where the Ministry lacks cultural facilities.

The Ministry of Culture has partnered with the Egyptian General Libraries, under the leadership of Ambassador Abdel Raouf Al-Ridi, to manage a network of 41 libraries. These libraries span the entire country, with both traditional branches in governorates and mobile units reaching underserved areas.

For his part, Ambassador Reza Al-Tayfi, Director of the Egyptian General Libraries Fund, praised the fruitful cooperation with the Ministry of Culture in library management, which has had a great impact on introducing many libraries to the work system during the past period, including libraries in provincial capitals and others mobile that were inaugurated last year from the New Administrative Capital.

This cooperation will be crowned this year with the inauguration of these libraries in the border areas and governorates, serving the residents of these governorates.
