Cairo’s Khedivial district gets a facelift: Phase 3 underway

Ibrahim Saber, the Governor of Cairo, confirmed today, Thursday, that work is currently underway on the third phase of the Khedivial Cairo development project, which includes the properties from Tahrir Square to Talaat Harb Square.

The Governor added that the Khedivial Cairo development project aims to bring about a qualitative leap in the downtown Cairo area by improving its visual image and enhancing its architectural character by preserving the facades of its distinctive buildings, removing all the distortions that have befallen them, and organizing the signs of commercial stores in a manner commensurate with the general character of the area.

The development work comes in implementation of the directives of the political leadership to quickly revive this area to preserve it and restore its vital role in expressing the architectural and urban character of the region.

Sabr emphasized that the development of downtown Khedivial Cairo, in cooperation with the Urban Coordination Authority, aims to finalize the general plan and maximize the area’s assets and investment potential. This includes developing the inter-passages, a key architectural element of the district, and optimizing their use.

The project also seeks to enhance Khedivial Cairo’s heritage and identity by increasing recreational and tourist activities, and promoting its cultural and artistic significance.
